Where Bernardo Silva fits in at City
The former Monaco playmaker sprained his ankle while scoring the second goal in his country’s 4-0 victory over New Zealand on Saturday, landing heavily under the pressure of a defensive challenge.
Silva’s goal doubled Portugal’s lead after Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring, with Andre Silva and Nani securing their side’s spot in the semi-final stage of the competition, though the City man played no further part.
Silva was replaced by Benfica striker Pizzi at half-time, leaving City supporters worried that their £43 million man had suffered serious damage.
However, initial checks proved the 22-year-old has only picked up a minor sprain, and he was happy to share the good news.
Silva said: “Thanks a lot for all your support messages. Everything is fine with my ankle.”
Silva, who will wear the number 20 shirt for Pep Guardiola’s side during the 2017-18 Premier League campaign, signed a five-year contract at the Etihad club last month.
